A Bit About Me

My name is Richard Severs.

This site is very much a reflection of my own interests - my biggest hope is that you will enjoy the site and perhaps even learn something interesting about our wonderful universe.

I do have a Master’s degree in astrophysics, but more importantly, I’ve been an avid amateur astronomer and space enthusiast for as long as I can remember.

Dedication

The Universe Revealed is dedicated to the devoted scientists, engineers and heroic space explorers, both past and present, some of whom paid the ultimate price, through whose resolute efforts the quest to understand our universe has been advanced.

About this Site

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars”

- Oscar Wilde

A very warm welcome to The Universe Revealed.

This site is intended to provide an introduction to our wonderful and fascinating home - the universe. There is no doubt that the universe is a beautiful and awe inspiring place, but have you ever wondered how it all began? Or when it will end?

If so, then you are not alone. Humans have always sought answers to these questions. In the past, explanations were sought within the realm of myths and legends. Today we are fortunate to have the power of the scientific method, together with modern technology, to aid in our search for answers.

We now know that the universe is vast and ancient beyond our comprehension. The reality of what has been discovered is far more profound and wonderful than any myth. This is an exciting time to be alive because it is likely that many of the remaining mysteries of the Universe will be uncovered within our lifetimes.

By striving to understand the universe we can place our human concerns in perspective. Astronomy transcends our sometimes superficial human interests crossing all national and cultural boundaries.  No doubt other races on other planets in far away galaxies are undertaking a similar struggle to understand the universe. In this sense physics and cosmology are truly universal subjects.

It is this quest for understanding that can give our lives a purpose beyond mere survival.

This web site is, of course, a work in progress as research is continuously moving forward. The material will be updated and new topics will be started as they arise over the coming years. As the site progresses I would very much welcome feedback, suggestions for improvement and especially corrections for any errors.
